Travel

The nearest airport which you can fly into is Bram Fischer Airport located in Bloemfontein, Free State

For international travellers there are no direct links so you will need to get a connecting flight from either Cape Town International Airport or Johannesburg - OR Tambo International Airport which are both very accessible.

Please check the visa requirements for your home country as they are not issued at South Africa ports of entry. For more information on how to apply for a South African visa see here. If you require a formal letter of invitation please contact us at sojung.rim@socialinnovationexchange.org.

  • Johannesburg to Bloemfontein is 45 mins (recommended airline: Airlink)

  • Cape Town to Bloemfontein is 1h 15 mins (recommended airlines: Airlink or FlySafair)

Please note, you will need to book a shuttle from Bram Fischer Airport to your hotel. We recommend Zeus Shuttles & Coaches - as there are no shuttles present at the airport on arrival we suggest booking at least 3 days before arrival. The airport is quite small so you can book your shuttle for soon after your flight lands.

As a global event we are mindful of the environmental impact of air travel and acknowledge that whilst carbon offsetting isn’t a perfect solution, it’s one step towards reducing our footprint. One convenient way is by directly offsetting with the airline when booking a flight. Alternatively, we encourage participants to consider other schemes featuring Gold Standard, Verified Carbon Standard or QAS certified projects such as the following:

We are committed to minimising our event's environmental impact and appreciate you considering sustainable travel options.

  • What exactly will we discuss?
During our days together in Bloemfontein, we will discuss what it takes to build the collective power of communities to create resilient, people-powered places. As part of this, we will explore what kind of institutions we need to build a society fit for the next generation. With its history of overcoming the system of apartheid, South Africa is the perfect place for this discussion.
